You don’t need to a hippy or a radical to appreciate an animal’s right not to be tortured so that you can have slightly larger eyelashes. I was recently told that MAC, one of the makeup brands I rely on every day to hide the fact that I’d rather be still in bed, now tests on animals. Their reasoning behind this is that in order to sell to China, it is required by law. All companies under MAC’s parent company, Estee Lauder, state that they do not test on animals unless the law requires them to.
This is an extremely frustrating change. MAC have been very outspoken about how they were cruelty free and have built up a fan base within the cruelty-free beauty community and now makeup artists who exclusively use MAC’s shadows are put in a position where they need to decide if they want to invest hundreds or thousands of dollars in new products or if they are going to compromise on their personal values in relation to animal cruelty.
If you disagree with this change, like I so obviously and passionately do, please contact MAC or Estee Lauder and let your feeling be known. Consumers have more power than we give ourselves credit for, so let’s see if we can make our claims heard. You can email, or even more effectively mail the addresses below.
